Baldinger studied typography in Zurich with Hans Rudolf Bosshard and type design at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique (ANRT) in Paris. In 1995, he founded his own studio, focusing on book design, type design, visual identities, and posters. In 2005, he participated in the Swiss National Bank competition for new banknotes. In 2008, he co-founded the design office baldinger·vu-huu, followed by the type foundry b·v-h type in 2022. André has received grants from the French Ministry of Culture, the Swiss Confederation (Federal Design Prize), and the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap), as well as a residency at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. His work is regularly awarded and included in collections such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Design Museum Zurich, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Toyama Museum of Modern Art. He is co-founder and co-director of the EnsadLab Type research lab at EnsAD and teaches typography and type design at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
